Alabama teens attacked by shark; victim’s mother gives update | News

Two Birmingham teenagers sustained injuries in a series of shark attacks in the Florida Panhandle.

Lulu Gribbin and Mccray Faust of Mountain Brook were attacked by sharks in Walton County, Florida. The attacks forced authorities to temporarily close several beaches.

Gribbin suffered severe injuries to his foot and hand and Faust suffered minor injuries to his foot.

Lulu’s mother announced online that several surgeries were planned in the next few days.

People from Walton County came together to give strength to the families in their rebuilding efforts. Victims attend St. Luke’s Church, which held a joint prayer service for the young girls.

Statistically speaking, shark attacks are not common. According to the University of Florida’s Shark Attack File, there were 69 unprovoked shark bites worldwide last year.

If you plan a visit to the coast, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission advises you not to venture too far from shore in the water.

They also recommend avoiding the water during darkness or twilight, when sharks are most active.
