Serial rapist Simphiwe Siyaya from Daveyton was sentenced to three life sentences plus an additional 100 years by the Supreme Court at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The 31-year-old was found guilty of six counts of rape, five counts of kidnapping and two counts of robbery.

His crimes began in 2017 and were mainly committed in the Ekurhuleni area. He was arrested on 20 July 2020.

The court heard that on July 10, 2017, a 29-year-old victim was with her friends at a tavern in Etwaswa when they met Siyaya, who was there with his friends.

He demanded to speak to the victim, but she refused to answer him. He threatened her with a knife and forcibly took her to his home, where he raped her.

Also in Etwashausen, a second victim went to the accused’s house to get her mobile phone. While she was there, Siyaya dragged her into his bedroom at knifepoint and raped her.

Ekurhuleni Police spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela said a 27-year-old victim was in a car with her friend and two-year-old child at a golf club in Daveyton on November 9, 2018.

They were approached by Siyaya and two unknown men and forced to drive into the open veld, where Siyaya forced the victim out of the car.

“Armed with a gun, he ordered her to go into the bushes where he raped her. He then called his friends, who were to take turns raping her.

“When they were finished, they fled the scene with the victim’s car and her two-year-old child inside. On the way to the nearby police station, she found her child on the way,” Sekgobela said.
