Charlotte: Suspect arrested in armed robbery and police chase

CHARLOTTE, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery that led to a police chase has been arrested, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

Shortly after noon, CMPD’s Real Time Crime Center located the vehicle of a suspect who had just committed an armed robbery in the 5700 block of North Graham Street.

Officers attempted to stop traffic, but the suspect fled, and a chase began.

At approximately 12:16 p.m., the suspect collided with a third party vehicle at the corner of Hoskins Road and Rozzelles Ferry Road.

Despite the accident, the suspect did not stop and continued to flee from the police.

The pursuit ended a few minutes later and the suspect was arrested at I-85 and Brookshire Boulevard.

The suspect, Robert Vaughn, 44, is accused of the following charges, among others:

  • Armed robbery
  • Serious crime: escape
  • Serious crime: hit and run

Vaughn also had several arrest warrants outstanding, including for possession of a firearm by a felon.

The citizen in the vehicle struck by the suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
