Woman and child found dead in Lake Eufaula

EUFAULA, Alabama (WTVY) – Police are investigating the deaths of at least two people and another is still missing after they were discovered in a car found in Lake Eufaula.

Eufaula police were contacted Sunday about three people who were reported missing on June 1. They are two young women and a four-year-old child who may have been near Old Creek Town Park.

EPD arrived on scene around 8:30 p.m. and began searching the water surrounding the park, discovering a vehicle approximately 12 feet below the surface of the lake. Houston County rescue divers were dispatched to the area and assisted in identifying the vehicle as one of the missing persons and also assisted in recovering the vehicle from the water.

The bodies of two of the three missing people, one of the young women and the little boy, were discovered in the vehicle. The second missing woman could not be found, but the search for her whereabouts is still ongoing.

Police continue to gather information and review evidence at the scene. Additional details are expected to be released as they become available. This incident is under investigation by the EPD Criminal Investigation Division.

Eufaula Police Chief Danny Christ added that this appears to be an isolated incident at this time and is not connected to any other crimes in the area.
