Giving details, officials said the accused befriended the two girls, aged 13 and 15, raped them, filmed the sexual assault and extorted about Rs 1 million from the siblings’ family since January by threatening to circulate the videos on social media.

“The accused befriended the two girls after contacting them over the phone. He lured the girls on the pretext of partying with them but gave them intoxicants and raped both the girls. At the time of the incident, the accused also shot obscene videos of both the girls,” police said.

“The girls were extorted hundreds of thousands of rupees because the accused threatened to circulate the videos on social media and kill the girls if they did not do so,” they said.

An official said the matter came to light when the father found some money, which the family had kept for emergencies, missing at home. He questioned the girls about the missing cash, who then narrated the entire ordeal to their father and told him that they had given the money to the accused, who had been blackmailing them for the past six months.
