Suspect in fatal Lake Berryessa shooting arrested and charged with murder

(KRON) — A suspect in a fatal shooting at Lake Berryessa last weekend has been arrested. Gabriel James Chavez, 25, of American Canyon was arrested and charged with murder, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

Chavez was arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred Saturday following a large brawl at Lake Berryessa. During the scene, which was described as “chaotic,” 39-year-old Vallejo resident Andres Fabian Sandoval Garcia suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

Three other victims were injured by punches and stab wounds, police said. The incident began with an altercation between two groups that led to a fight. The suspect, later identified as Chavez, fled the scene, police said.

However, he was later arrested while receiving treatment at a hospital.

Chavez is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
