Mizoram: Myanmar trade halted after junta destroys bridge

The import of essential goods, including cold drinks, bread, other food items and electronic devices from Tahan town in Myanmar’s Kalaymyo district into Mizoram has been halted due to the destruction of a key suspension bridge by the Myanmar junta on Saturday. Official border trade between Mizoram and Myanmar’s Sagaing division has been suspended for the past two days, officials confirmed on Monday.

Local sources and officials reported that Myanmar junta members blew up the suspension bridge over the Run River in Teddim Township area on Saturday morning. This bridge was the main link between Mizoram and Tahan town in Myanmar’s Sagaing Division. The destruction of the bridge has virtually cut off the main road, significantly affecting all business activities as even pedestrians are currently unable to cross the bridge.
