Suspended Bagmati Municipality Mayor Thapa faces new Rs 300 million corruption case

KATHMANDU, June 11: Bharat Kumar Thapa, the suspended mayor of Bagmati Municipality in Sarlahi district, has been booked in another corruption case worth Rs 300 million.

The Commission to Investigate Abuse of Power (CIAA) filed a corruption case against Thapa and five others before the special court on Tuesday.

The CIAA alleges that Thapa was involved in corruption cases amounting to Rs 302.9 million during the construction of a lake in wards 4 and 12 of Bagmati municipality.

Earlier, the anti-corruption agency had filed a corruption case worth Rs 53.3 million against Thapa on March 31, accusing him of illegally amassing money.
