The GBI has arrested and charged 29-year-old Hampton, Georgia police officer Shevoy Brown with assault and breach of oath of office. On June 4, 2024, the Hapeville Police Department asked the GBI to investigate a use of force incident against the officer.

On June 3, 2024, Brown responded to a 911 call. Brown arrested a man and transported him to the Hapeville Police Department for processing. While the man was in Brown’s custody at the police department, Brown repeatedly used a Taser on the man in a manner that was inconsistent with police department training and policy. The arrestee was medically evaluated and booked into the Fulton County Jail on a misdemeanor charge.

After Hapeville Police Chief Bruce Hedley was informed of the incident, he immediately requested that the GBI conduct an independent investigation. Brown currently serves in the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.

This investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the GBI Atlanta Regional Investigative Office at (770) 388-5019.
