Parts of Interstate 10 will be closed this weekend at Loop 1604

SAN ANTONIO – Motorists will have to endure another round of major construction closures in the far northwest this weekend.

As part of the Loop 1604 North expansion project, TxDOT will have several closures in place, weather permitting, beginning at 9:00 p.m. Friday, June 14, through 5:00 a.m. Monday, June 17.

The closures include:

  • Main lanes of I-10 eastbound at Loop 1604 interchange

  • I-10 westbound main lanes and collector-distributor at Loop 1604 interchange

  • Loop 1604, westbound access road at the I-10 intersection

  • Loop 1604, eastbound collector and distributor road and access road at the intersection with I-10

  • Cloverleaf ramps from I-10 westbound to Loop 1604 westbound, from Loop 1604 eastbound to I-10 westbound, and from I-10 eastbound to Loop 1604 eastbound

The main lanes of Loop 1604 will remain open throughout the weekend.

These are the minimum closures required for the planned work. All closures are subject to change as needed. Local police authorities will be directing traffic during this time. Drivers are asked to plan ahead for delays. A map and detour information is provided below.

Main lanes of I-10 WB to Loop 1604 WB

All drivers in the westbound I-10 main lanes and those wishing to use Loop 1604 westbound should exit onto the westbound I-10 access road after UTSA Boulevard and follow the westbound I-10 access road through the interchange. Travelers should either rejoin the I-10 WB main lanes from the first on-ramp after the Loop 1604 interchange or use the U-turn at La Cantera Parkway to access westbound Loop 1604. Those wishing to use Loop 1604 westbound should follow the eastbound I-10 access road back to the westbound Loop 1604 access road and merge onto the westbound Loop 1604 main lanes after Valero Way.

I-10 EB main lanes to Loop 1604 EB

All drivers in the main lanes of eastbound I-10 and those wishing to use eastbound Loop 1604 must exit eastbound I-10 via the collector and distributor road to travel through the Loop 1604 interchange and rejoin the main lanes after the interchange. Those wishing to use eastbound Loop 1604 must take Exit 557. Travelers must use the U-turn at UTSA Boulevard and then follow the westbound I-10 slip road to the eastbound Loop 1604 slip road. Traffic may enter the eastbound Loop 1604 main lanes via the on-ramp just before Vance Jackson Road.

Loop 1604 EB access road and Loop 1604 EB main lanes to I-10 WB

All drivers on the eastbound Loop 1604 feeder road and the eastbound main lanes wishing to access westbound I-10 will use the eastbound Loop 1604 exit to eastbound I-10. Traffic will exit the road at exit 557 and then use the U-turn at UTSA Boulevard to follow westbound I-10 to the eastbound Loop 1604 feeder road. Traffic may enter the eastbound main lanes of Loop 1604 from the on-ramp just before Vance Jackson Road. Travelers wishing to access westbound I-10 will continue on the westbound I-10 feeder road through the Loop 1604 interchange and enter the westbound main lanes from the first ramp after the interchange.

Loop 1604 WB access road

All drivers wishing to continue westbound on the Loop 1604 access road through the I-10 interchange should exit onto the I-10 westbound access road and make the U-turn at La Cantera Parkway. Travelers should follow the I-10 eastbound access road back to the Loop 1604 westbound access road and merge onto the main westbound Loop 1604 lanes at Valero Way.

No major construction closures are planned during the week surrounding the July 4th holiday.
