New Milford police search for driver who harassed police during traffic stop

NEW MILFORD, CT (WFSB) – Police in New Milford said they are looking for a driver who “rang” a couple of officers during a traffic stop last month.

The incident occurred on May 24 at around 00:10

They posted surveillance photos of the car on social media.

The two officers involved conducted the traffic stop on Danbury Road near Picket District Road.

Police say the driver approached the officers’ patrol cars from behind, which were parked in the right lane with their hazard lights on, swerved and accelerated around them at more than 65 miles per hour. They said the driver came within a few feet of a patrol car where an officer had been parked just two seconds earlier.

The suspect sped north on Danbury Road and then north on Kent Road at a high rate of speed.

According to police, the vehicle may have been a gray 2021 BMW M340xi with a black spoiler lip and a loud aftermarket exhaust.

On Tuesday morning, New Milford police said they were in possession of a partial Connecticut license plate and were reviewing video surveillance from patrol cars and several businesses along Danbury Road to make a positive identification.

The suspect is believed to have fled from police on Danbury Road around 5 p.m. on May 5.
