Perry County Water Rescue

Emergency dispatchers say crews were called to the scene of a water rescue in Perry County Sunday morning. They say the rescue took place on Shermans Creek near the Dellville Covered Bridge in Wheatfield Township. Chief Byron Warner of the Duncannon Fire Company told News 8 when crews arrived they found an overturned boat with a man in the rapids and another man in the anchor rope. The chief reported that a man who got caught in the anchor rope drowned. The rescue workers were able to save the other man with a rope. The rescue workers crossed the stream and led him downstream out of the rapids. Crews from Duncannon Fire Company, Harrisburg City Fire Swift Water Rescue, Harrisburg River Rescue and Susquehanna Township provided assistance. The emergency services cleared the scene of the accident shortly before 11:30 a.m. An investigation into this incident is ongoing.

They say the rescue took place on Shermans Creek near the Dellville Covered Bridge in Wheatfield Township.

Chief Byron Warner of the Duncannon Fire Company tells News 8 that when crews arrived they found an overturned boat with one man in the rapids and another tangled in the anchor rope.

The chief reported that a man who was caught in the anchor rope had drowned.

Rescue crews were able to save the other man by placing a rope across the stream and guiding him downstream out of the rapid.

Crews from Duncannon Fire Company, Harrisburg City Fire Swift Water Rescue, Harrisburg River Rescue and Susquehanna Township assisted.

The emergency services cleared the scene of the accident shortly before 11:30 a.m

An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
