Four Eastern Iowa College instructors are recovering after being attacked during a trip to China. The college said the four Cornell College instructors were stabbed over the weekend while visiting a park in the Chinese city of Jilin. The instructors were on a trip as part of a partnership between Cornell and a university in China, Cornell President Jonathan Brand said in a statement sent to Cornell students. “We have learned that four Cornell College instructors who teach as part of a partnership with a university in China were injured in a serious incident during a day visit to a public park while accompanied by a faculty member from the partner institution,” Brand wrote. “We have been in contact with all four instructors and are supporting them during this time. No students participated in this program.” The four victims have not yet been publicly identified and their conditions are unknown. U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who represents Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, which includes Mount Vernon, also issued a statement Monday. “My office and I are in contact with an affected family from Iowa. We are working through appropriate channels and requesting to speak with the U.S. Embassy on appropriate matters to ensure the victims receive quality treatment for their injuries first and then are able to depart China in a medically feasible manner,” the statement said. Four college professors from eastern Iowa are recovering after an attack while on a trip to China.

According to the college, the four Cornell College faculty members were stabbed over the weekend while visiting a park in the Chinese city of Jilin. The faculty members were on a trip as part of a partnership between Cornell and a university in China, Cornell President Jonathan Brand said in a statement sent to Cornell students.

“We have learned that four Cornell University faculty members teaching as part of a partnership with a university in China were injured in a serious incident while visiting a public park during the day while accompanied by a faculty member from the partner institution,” Brand wrote. “We have been in contact with all four faculty members and are supporting them during this time. No students participated in this program.”

The identities of the four victims have not yet been made public and their condition is unknown.

U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who represents Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, which includes Mount Vernon, also issued a statement on Monday.

“My office and I are in contact with an affected family from Iowa. We are working through appropriate channels and requesting to discuss the relevant matters with the U.S. Embassy to ensure that the victims first receive quality treatment for their injuries and then can leave China in a medically feasible manner,” the statement said.
