Man allegedly ran towards police officers with knives during SWAT operation

A man armed with multiple knives ran toward police officers during a standoff Tuesday in Harrison Township. At around 1:30 a.m., officers were attempting to execute an involuntary commitment order at a home on Linden Street when they were confronted by a 47-year-old man. The man, who reportedly had a knife on him at the time, barricaded himself inside the home. Negotiators with the Allegheny County Police Department were called to assist the Harrison Township Police Department. During negotiations, authorities say, officers encountered the man inside the home, who had multiple knives on him. After that encounter, the man reportedly retreated to a bedroom, and a SWAT team was called. Further negotiations were attempted before the SWAT team deployed an irritant inside the home, causing the man to step outside. He then ran toward them with his knives, according to authorities. Authorities say they used beanbag rounds and a taser to eventually arrest the man. He was taken to a hospital for examination and is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
