1 dead and 1 injured in ATV accident in Chilton County

A Jemison man was killed and another injured in an ATV accident in Chilton County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash involving an all-terrain vehicle occurred around 4:17 p.m. Monday on Chilton County 135 near Chilton County 1038, two miles north of Jemison.

According to police, 19-year-old Shawn Smith was fatally injured when his all-terrain vehicle left the road, struck an embankment and rolled over. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 16-year-old youth riding on the ATV was injured and taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The ALEA Highway Patrol Division is investigating the accident.
