Kannapolis police charge 18-year-old with first-degree murder

KANNAPOLIS, NC (WBTV) – An 18-year-old was arrested Tuesday after allegedly killing a woman in a Kannapolis home.

Kannapolis police said they were called to a home on Lane Street at 8:45 p.m. on Monday. When they arrived on scene, they learned that an altercation had occurred between several people.

Ebony Gill, 43, was shot and died at the scene.

Jawaren Smith, 18, was later charged with first-degree murder. Police said they were able to arrest him with the help of local residents who saw him running away from the scene.
