Marion Sheriff: Elderly woman sexually assaulted after man sneaked into her home

MARION COUNTY, Florida. — An elderly woman was attacked in her home over the weekend after a man reportedly snuck in, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

In a press release, Sheriff Billy Woods announced that the attack occurred around midnight Sunday morning.

Woods added that the woman woke up and saw the man sneaking through her house and eventually beat and sexually assaulted her.

MCSO investigators are currently trying to determine who is responsible, officials said.

“Dear fellow Reddick residents: If you have seen anything suspicious or noticed anything unusual on your security cameras, please call 352-732-9111 to report it,” the press release said.

In addition, the MCSO offers the following advice to anyone who knows someone who lives alone:

• Make sure your doors are locked.

• Help them install surveillance cameras.

• Check them out.
