Woman has her leg severed in bizarre train accident and tears herself off the tracks

A “wonder woman” whose leg was severed by a train in a “short-lived accident” amazingly managed to survive after pulling herself off the tracks.

Lisa Fitzgerald, 29, was struck by a train at the Morristown train station in New Jersey on May 5 while waiting in the “pouring rain” for a train to take her to New York City. In a “freak accident,” she was struck by the last cars of the train.

According to Lisa’s stepmother, Stacie Weil-Fitzgerald, she suddenly landed under the train. “A freak accident… somehow she ended up under the train,” she said. “Her leg was immediately severed.”

“She pushed herself onto the platform and waited there on the tracks,” Stacie described. “She crawled across, the poor thing.”

“She said, ‘I was so scared my hair would get caught in there and it would suck me back in,'” she added. “So she waited until the train stopped. She got up on the platform and started screaming for help.”

Remarkably, some commuters at the station simply walked past her and ignored her cries for help. It was only when a train conductor noticed her that someone finally came to her aid.

“Her leg was completely severed. She was bleeding out… she started screaming for help,” Stacie told Fox News. “And someone who works for New Jersey Transit, the ticket inspector, came over and completely freaked out.”

“She said, ‘You have ten seconds to help me.’ And she started screaming and counting, ‘One, two, three,'” she described. “And luckily, two Morristown police officers heard it.” The stunned 29-year-old tried to bandage her own leg with her T-shirt to stop the bleeding until emergency responders arrived at the scene.

Officers from the Morristown Fire Department also arrived to assist officers and recover the missing leg. Lisa’s leg was found under the train and turned over to paramedics. “The actions of Officers Hollain, Cerrick and Moran undoubtedly saved this woman’s life,” officers added. “They demonstrated unwavering composure, which enabled quick and effective decision-making and provided comfort and support to the victim.”

Lisa, dubbed the “Miracle of Morristown,” was rushed to hospital but her leg could not be stitched back on. A GoFundMe campaign set up by her sister has raised over £60,000 so far. “We decorated the hospital and had a big party for her,” Stacie said. “And she’s in such good spirits. People have been so supportive and so amazing with her GoFundMe campaign, which makes us feel really good.”
