Honk if you like horse-drawn carriage

Honk if you like horse-drawn carriage

Have you ever heard the expression, it’s hippo to be cool? No? Well, that’s because you haven’t visited the Buffalo Transportation/Pierce-Arrow Museum, where one of their latest eccentric cars on display is the one-of-a-kind Hippomobile. Yes, this zany ride, created by contemporary post-war American artist Albert Guibara (California – born 1944) is now on view at the museum, just in time for Father’s Day.

According to the Museum, the 600-pound Hippomobile was built on the chassis of a 1971 Ford Mustang convertible and can reach speeds of 100 MPH (thanks to its 70-horsepower horsepower).

Take Dad and the family to see a one-of-a-kind beast, built on the chassis of a 1971 Ford Mustang convertible. A copper and brass work of art weighing 600 pounds, the Hippomobile is capable of reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour,

The Rolling Horsemobile has:

  • Headlights hidden in the hippo’s chubby cheeks
  • A wagging tail
  • Hippopotamus pattern steering wheel
  • A cattle egret rearview mirror that jumped in for the ride
  • An 8-track stereo set to “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” once played

The Hippomobile will be the star attraction of Father’s Day weekend, with all the superstar dads paying a visit, of course. And while the Hippomobile is more of an odd attraction for the most serious car enthusiast, it will be a real spectacle for the kids who tow it, while dads search for their all-time favorite cars, including some of these Pierce-Arrow Company (Buffalo, New York) automobiles:

The Hippomobile is just one of countless fascinating cars on display at the Museum. Others include sports cars, exotic cars, classics, antiques, muscle cars and just about anything else you can imagine. Not to mention an endless supply of other transportation-related ephemera, such as classic bicycles and historic automobiles.
