Henley Middle School principal arrested for assault and child abuse in Henrico County

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – The principal of Henley Middle School in Albemarle County faces charges in Henrico County Juvenile and Family Court.

LaRuth Ensley was arrested on July 9, 2024, and arraigned the following day on two charges: assault on a family member, which is a first-class misdemeanor, and child abuse causing serious injury, which is a fourth-class felony.

Ensley became principal of Hensley Middle School in July 2022. Previously, she served as assistant principal of Falling Creek Middle School in Chesterfield County. Her previous roles included head of the English department at a Richmond high school and a lecturer at several community colleges and online universities.

Ensley was released from custody and will be back in court on August 26, five days after students return to school. District officials have not yet commented, but are limited in their ability to comment on personnel matters.
