Three dead after wrong-way crash in Platte County on I-29

PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. — Three people have died after a wrong-way crash in Platte County just after midnight on Thursday.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2017 Ford Edge was traveling northbound in the southbound lane on I-29 near Maple Leaf Ave.


The Ford then hit a 2007 Honda Odyssey head on. The Honda went off the right side of the road and hit a concrete barrier. There were seven passengers inside the vehicle.

Three people in the Honda died from their injuries. Those people have been identified as 52-year-old Michelet Metellus, 54-year-old Sheyla Similien and 55-year-old Joel Similien.

All three victims were from Kansas City, Missouri.

The four other passengers were transported to the hospital. Three of them had moderate or serious injuries and one person was uninjured,

The driver of the Ford Edge was taken into custody and is being treated at the hospital. His condition is currently unknown.
