Man arrested after suspected break-in at a Select Mart in Sioux City Saturday evening

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – A Sioux City man was arrested following an incident at a gas station Saturday evening.

Court documents state that on Saturday, May 11, 36-year-old Craig Mitchell of Sioux City allegedly entered the Select Mart gas station on 14th St. with a medium-sized folding knife at approximately 4 p.m.

Documents show Mitchell stole an estimated $45 worth of merchandise from the store. When the employee asked Mitchell to leave, he allegedly pointed the knife at the employee and threatened him.

Authorities say Mitchell left the store without paying for the items.

According to court documents, Mitchell was later found with the knife and stolen merchandise when police arrived on scene.

Documents show the incident was allegedly captured on video footage. During a search warrant, authorities said they found a white crystallized substance that field tested to be methamphetamine in Mitchell’s pocket along with needles.

After the arrest, Mitchell was charged with trespassing, possession of a controlled substance and first-degree burglary, according to court documents.

Mitchell was booked into the Woodbury County Jail on $1,300 bond.
