Perverted Scottish rapist who forced his victims to pay off debts and sell their property jailed

A rapist who subjected two of his former partners to a horror campaign of brutal and controlling abuse has been jailed. Charles Fyfe Morrison, 27, was found guilty of five charges – including three counts of serious sexual assault – following a trial at the High Court in Paisley in June.

On Thursday 11 July, he was sentenced to an extended term of nine years and a seven-year prison term by the same court. Morrison targeted the women over a period of four years at various locations in the Paisley and Edinburgh areas.

He forced a victim to pay off accumulated debts, sold her belongings, took out loans in her name and then forced her to sign cell phone contracts in his name. He monitored and questioned the woman about her cell phone activities and isolated her from her friends, family and medical staff.

During the campaign of abuse, Morrison threw household items, punched walls and other surfaces near her, and shouted, swore, and threatened her. The perpetrator forced his victim to take prescribed medication and prevented her from leaving a property.

During the assault, Morrison brutally assaulted the woman, holding a pair of scissors to her stomach. His second victim was similarly assaulted, with a knife being held to her stomach.

Morrison also forced her to send him money and to borrow money from relatives without paying it back. During their relationship, he violently attacked the woman, even choking her, causing injuries and putting her life in danger.

The perpetrator took her cell phone to prevent the woman from calling for help and threatened to harm her dog. Morrison’s name was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Both victims were granted restraining orders prohibiting him from contacting or attempting to contact them for a period of 15 years. Detective Inspector Cheryl Gebbie said: “Morrison has been identified as a danger to women and will now face the consequences of his actions.”

“I hope his conviction and sentence will bring justice to the women involved who showed great strength in reporting what had happened to them. Police Scotland is committed to tackling all forms of violent and sexual crime, regardless of when they occurred.

“I would urge anyone who has been a victim of such abuse to come forward and report it to us. We will thoroughly investigate all reports and, in collaboration with our partner agencies, will support you throughout the process.”

Katrina Parkes, Scotland’s sex offender prosecutor, said: “Charles Fyfe Morrison is a dangerous individual who subjected his victims to unimaginable trauma and abuse over a period of years. These charges are only possible thanks to the bravery of these women.”

“I would like to urge all victims of similar crimes not to suffer in silence, but to report the matter and get help. We will listen to you and use all the means at our disposal to obtain justice.”
