Driver arrested after man killed in hit-and-run crash in Cumberland County

FAYETTEVILLE, NC — A 25-year-old pedestrian was killed Tuesday night when a driver sped past a deputy and hit the man, according to Fayetteville police.

At 10 p.m., a Cumberland County deputy saw a speeding red car on Murchison Road. The deputy attempted to catch up with the driver of the car, when he was flagged down at Murchison Road and Pamalee Drive because a person had been hit by the red car.

The deputy stopped to help the person who had been hit. WRAL News learned that person, identified as Tyrone Thomas Jr., 25, died.

Another deputy was able to locate the red car near the 2300 block of Murchison Road. It was when the deputy approached the car that a chase began. The suspect continued on Murchison Road to Langdon Road, hitting a car at Langdon and Ramsey Street. The driver continued up Ramsey Street and stopped in the 2300 block of Ramsey Street.

Logen Harvey, 22, was charged with felony death by motor vehicle, felony hit-and-run involving death and driving while impaired.

Deputies arrested Harvey and turned him over to the Fayetteville Police Department. He was jailed on a $1 million secured bond.
