2 suspects arrested in ongoing Colorado Springs kidnapping investigation | Crime & Justice

Two suspects were arrested Wednesday morning following a shooting and kidnapping involving a stolen truck in east Colorado Springs.

Just after 10 a.m. Wednesday, Colorado Springs Sand Creek Division police officers were called to a report of shots fired near the 600 block of Wooten Road.

Upon arrival, officers were able to locate several witnesses. Video surveillance showed officers that a suspect had shot one victim and abducted another from the scene.

Colorado Springs police have filed charges against a man who was arrested for allegedly causing a fatal triple-vehicle crash in June.

Shawn Michael Johnson, 40, faces two counts of vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence of alcohol and other traffic violations in connection with the June 16 crash at the corner of South Powers Boulevard and East Fountain that left two people dead and another hospitalized.

Further investigation revealed that two suspects had followed the stolen truck to the crime scene. When the truck was found, a disturbance ensued, according to the police report.

The owner of the stolen truck is said to have chased the male occupant of his truck and shot at him with a pistol. According to police, no one appeared to have been hit. At this point, the male victim fled the scene.

The suspect then kidnapped the passenger of his stolen truck and had her show him possible locations of the first victim, the escaped man.

Officers were able to retrieve information from police databases and locate the suspects and kidnapping victim in the 3500 block of Ironwood Place.

Two suspects were arrested. The names of the arrested suspects are not being released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
