Danny Rodriguez receives 25 years in prison for sexually abusing two children | News

A 65-year-old man who was convicted earlier this year of sexually abusing two minor children has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Danny Vincent Rodriguez was found guilty of three counts of first-degree sexual abuse and eight counts of second-degree sexual abuse in a February trial.

Despite facing life in prison without the possibility of parole, Rodriguez was sentenced to 25 years for each of the first-degree felonies and 15 years for each of the eight counts of second-degree sexual abuse.

All sentences must be served concurrently, there is three years of probation after release on parole, and the person must also register as a Level 1 sex offender.

According to court documents, Rodriguez repeatedly abused a 12-year-old girl, beginning when she was 6 years old. He then abused an 8-year-old girl.

“The defendant lured and manipulated the victims, bought them gifts and treats, and gained the trust of the victims’ unsuspecting parents to commit these crimes,” Attorney General Douglas Moylan said in a press release announcing the verdict. “Judge (John) Terlaje correctly recognized that the defendant had abused the trust of two vulnerable victims known to him and caused them harm. He determined that a sentence of less than 25 years would diminish the seriousness of the crimes.”

Moylan also thanked the victim “for her courage in coming forward and stopping the defendant from committing crimes against other minor children.”
