Dagenham man raped woman and held her captive in her own home for a week

A man has been sentenced to prison after raping and assaulting a woman and locking her in her own home for a week. Sam Price, 25, of Central Park Avenue, Dagenham, was sentenced to ten and a half years in prison for rape and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday 5 July.

Price met the woman in Romford in 2023 and exchanged details with her. The abuse began within days. He visited the woman’s home where he repeatedly hit her, bit her and subjected her to various other attacks and threats. In addition to these attacks, he also raped her.

Price kept the woman from her home for seven days, intimidating and verbally abusing her. On the seventh day, he finally left the property and his victim managed to call her friend for help, who notified police. Officers collected video footage, witness statements and victim statements.

Price was tracked down at an address on Central Park Avenue within days of undercover work by the local police force and was subsequently questioned by detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s East Area Public Protection Unit on Wednesday 26 July.

He was found guilty of rape and assault in the same court following a trial in April. Price had previously pleaded guilty to assault in another case.

PC Ugne Draz, the Sexual Offences Victim Liaison Officer, said: “The victim in this case has shown incredible courage throughout the investigation. It has been a long process to bring this case to a close. The victim has bravely stood his ground to ensure that Sam Price is brought to justice.”

Detective Constable Jess Stephens, who led the investigation, said: “This is a good outcome, not only because we can close this case, but I hope it will encourage more women to come forward and report these crimes. Tackling violence against women and girls is a priority and we are using all the tactics at our disposal to target predatory men like Price who pose the greatest risk.”
